We are getting things started a little later this year, but rest assured that we have not been idle. The March GCF Club meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 18th at 7:15 in room 332 of the UC on the University campus. We will be there about 6:45 or so to begin setting up and taking memberships for the 2009 season.
This will be a very big year for the Club as we will be finishing the projects up at Pattee Canyon and beginning other projects. We can use all the support we can get, and one of the best ways to support our Club is to become a member!! Club membership is one of the biggest ways that we raise money each year. You don't have to be top be a tournament player, or for that matter play competitively at all, just have a passion for the sport we all love and want to see it continue to florish here in Missoula to become a member. So if describes how you feel, please consider becoming a member of, or donate to, the Garden City Flyers for the 2009 season and help grow the sport of Disc Golf in Missoula!!
Here is the agenda of things to be discussed:
1) Club membership for 2009 will be $20. Bag Tags will be available at the first Bag tag round on April 2nd and will cost $10
2) Election of Board Members for 2009. Officers to be elected will be President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
3) Financial status of the Garden City Flyers and our non-profit status
4) New GCF website and online store
5) A review of planned and proposed projects for Pattee Canyon
6) Fundraising for the above mentioned projects and the formation of a Fundraising Commitee dedicated to raising the remaining money for them
7) Bob Wards Affiliate Program
8 Potential projects discussed by the Forest Service for Blue Mountain and Club involvement in them
9) Proposed Club activities for 2009 including tournaments, fundraisers, and community involvement projects
10) Possibilities for new course development
11) A call for volunteers for the Pattee Canyon recycling project and Disc Golf Live distributer
12) New GCF merchandise for 2009
13) Open discussion
As our Club continues to grow and take on more responsibilities for course stewardship in the area, there will be more opportunities for more people to become directly involved with these projects. If you would like to become more involved, please consider running for office or volunteering for one of the volunteer positions.

Financial Status & discussion of NP status.
New website—new forums, online merchandise. Bob D. and Erik donated lots of time to this project!
New merchandise: new navy dri-fits, cotton hoodies, and half-zip pullover fleece long sleeve shirts. All hopefully available by the first bag tag. Brian then opened up the floor for merchandise suggestions:
More patches; additional discs; GCF custom three-legged stools; umbrella(?)
Review of planned and proposed projects for Pattee. GCF put 9 baskets at Pattee; we’ve been okayed for 18 rubber mat teepads and 18 baskets! We’ll need to remove 2 holes and get 4 more (we currently have 16). The new holes will be off of old hole 11, down towards Crazy Canyon, looping up again with old hole 12. Old holes 17+ will be gone, and a new hole will be down towards the course start so enter/exit can be in the same spot.
The catch: $4300 must be raised to pay for the remaining baskets, tee signs, gravel.
Fundraising Committee:
Club has earmarked $800, we have one donation of $1200 from James Ledyard as a matching grant. Lots of ways to raise $: buying merchandise, selling CFR discs, getting hole sponsors, throwing fundraisers a la Jim’s party, even coin-jar or table by Caras style grassroots guerrilla fundraising.
Another way to raise $: Bob Ward’s “Affiliate” Program. Any purchase of Bob Wards thru the GCF site, we get commission on. Any purchase! And once you go to it, you’re entered as going thru the GCF site even if you go there separately later. Link is right on the homepage.
Blue Mountain: We will be resuming roundtables with the Forest Service in the next month or so. This year’s talks will focus on Blue MT and upcoming challenges there. Brian mentioned that the bottom parking lot will likely be closed because of erosion, and Blue 1 is threatened due to its proximity. Dave S. pointed out that that location was prompted by a previous FS demand for restrooms (early ‘80s).
Currently you will be ticketed if not in an “official” parking lot at the course. There is little funding to expand the parking situation, so we should carpool! And obviously we need to have a good relationship w/ the Forest Service, which includes calling if we see infractions (ATVs, paintball, etc), picking up litter, etc.
Rubber mat teepads—we want Pattee to serve as a model for rehabbing using tee pads, to lessen impact, to best be able to state our case for Blue teepads.
Brian asked for any other proposals for discussion w/ FS about either Blue or Pattee.
Moving on…proposed club activities for 2009. Club will be throwing 2 tournaments for sure this year: Zoo Town Open. CFRs, regular discs, etc., on the way. Sat: Blue, Sun: Ft. Zoo.
Benefit: Aug 15 one day C Tier at Blue.
Lubrecht possible in October. Fall.
Joe C. mentioned that River Bend on the Blackfoot is a super awesome place and might be a nice place to hold a club fun day—swimming included.
Also: thinking about a Match Play Fundraiser, second Sunday in April (4/12)…more details to come on the website. Match Play format, 9 hole “matches,” max of four rounds, double elimination…
Also, Handicap series? Spokane style? Steve raised it as a nice possibility and good fundraiser. Problem is of course continuity, but certainly a great option.
Fundraising/Course Stewardship: FS has allowed us to put in an aluminum recycler (they’re giving us the can)! We need a few volunteers to service it.
Billy McManus
Tim Rahmig
Jon Graff
Damien and Bob brought up, more the merrier as far as responsibility sharing.
We can turn in the $ to the Treasurer once a month or so.
Erik Nugent is looking to hand the torch off on Disc Golf Live…available free if you put it on public TV…got to just hand the DVDs to MCAT, and do some brief paperwork, maybe talk ‘em into playing it, and gotta do it religiously (once every other month). Bob D. volunteered to take this on.
Last but not least—in previous years we haven’t sold club discs, but we have a million so anyone can buy ‘em.
After a last call for items, the meeting was adjourned.

Any details for those of us that had to go get fit for a wedding tux?
