advanced grandmaster-66 dgers competed in the division last year
and am strongly considering going
sucks to be a teacher in July

questions abound

Who else is going?
Where are you staying?
How's public transportation in Charlotte?

How many questions on the officials exam?
Is the officials exam as easy as it sounds?

How hot and humid is NC in July?
How many gallons of mosquito juice will I need?

What's the best way to train?
How do I keep the cost down?
Could I talk someone into sponsorship?

Any and all advice is certainly welcome

The officials test is not hard plus open book. I think it was 30 or so questions if I remember right. I got nothin' on all your other questions.

Who else is going?
Dunno. Not me unfortunately.

Where are you staying?
Here in Helena...did you not see my response to #1?

How's public transportation in Charlotte?
No idea. The courses aren't all that close to each other. That said it is a very inexpensive area...would be easy to rent a car for cheep.

How many questions on the officials exam?
Scott gots ya covered.

Is the officials exam as easy as it sounds?
Two words: "Open book."

How hot and humid is NC in July?
Yes.

How many gallons of mosquito juice will I need?
Yes.

What's the best way to train?
Lots of golf. The courses are UNREAL. This will be the best courses ever for Worlds. Usually there are a few dedicated courses in a Worlds area and they make a few new ones to cover the overflow. Charlotte, on the other hand, is Stan McDaniel's backyard and you will absolutely not believe your eyes. Disc golf like it is meant to be played, designed by one of the game's all-time best, with pretty much an unlimited budget, space, and volunteer labor pool. Renny Gold is simply spectacular. Hole 18 looks like a fantasy golf hole from a video game...three islands to land on, huge ravines, par 5 (throwing from island to island), easily a thousand feet...
If you think you will EVER go to Worlds, this is the one to go to, no joke. I just cannot say enough about the courses. As you have undoubtedly noticed.

How do I keep the cost down?
Hopefully find a buddy to share costs with. Like I said, though, it is a very inexpensive area...you can find a hotel for like $40 a night no problem I would think. Or, I am sure there will be lots of folks camping...no idea about where/quality/etc.

Could I talk someone into sponsorship?
Undoubtedly. A little "Worlds Fundraiser" tourney, even if it's just locals on a weekend day or two, would be great I am sure. Or sell advertising spots on your t-shirts Smile It's not at all uncommon for folks to do a little pre-event fundraising for something like worlds and I bet there would be a great response.

I did not get an invite this yr, fell just short on points i guess, but i already have a plane ticket... doin the waitlist thing and hoping they will have room for me and my $...

Ron P lived there for many yrs and has friends in the area- in fact hes goin down next week for the clash tourney... dunno yet the extent of our local "hookups" but simply had to make the call to play on these bucket list type courses...

moose iam booked july 11-22 outta bozo fyi... dunno our lodging-house rental maybe?- but wil post up in here with more details as it draws near and if theres room for you with us etc, ron has a couple personal faves inthe area we may also hit- like maybe winthrop bitch!

may hafta miss a few MTevents as a result which sucks but we're talking about world class courses in the fertile crescent of our sport, i had to jump on it esp. if we can even slightly save on stuff w ron's local knowledge.... now i just gotta get in...

team montana!

Worlds!!!!!

Sooooooooooo wish I could go to Worlds this year!!!!! Charlotte has probably the highest concentration of Gold level/world class courses anywhere. Was planning on attending until my boss put the kibosh on my plans... If you received an invite, be sure to register ASAP as both Pros and Ams will fill this year. If you didn't, be ready to register within an hour of open registration as there will be VERY limited space available after invitees.
