For all of you out there wondering.......yes, the event is on!
HDGC members met the other night to go over details to get things worked out. I suppose here shortly one of our members will be posting detailed information. Location is somewhat remote, near Norris, MT. Plan on traveling to Norris, the venue is is just a little west from there. And don't forget to bring your soaking garb, Norris Hot Springs "Water of the Gods" surely will be a place to wind down and relax! www.norrishotsprings.com/

See you all soon!

Norris Hot Springs is

Norris Hot Springs is un-be-freaking-lievable for anyone who hasn't been before. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the entire state. There is a stage no more than 5 feet away from the pool where they will have live music (often bluegrass) and there is free-flowing food and drink. And plenty of campsites pretty close. Awesome. What can we expect from the course? This won't be sanctioned will it?

You can get a preview of the course at http://discgolfer.ning.com/photo/photo/show?id=1809917%3APhoto%3A245045

This will NOT be a scantioned event. Joe, most likely this venue won't be a part of the State Championships.

Also, if you haven't been notified as of yet, the States have been moved forward to the weekend of August 29-30. I'm in the negotiating stage with Jean, owner of Bohart, and should have more information after a meeting with her this afternoon. Stand by for more info soon!

Regarding camping

I just looked on the Norris Hot Springs site, and like Christian said, it looks like it gives a logical place to camp, besides mentioning some other nearby spots. Revenue Flats has multiple places that could easily be scouted out for camping too. There is a gas station/convenience store in Norris, on the way to the course (approx. 15 minutes away). Good for food, drink, bathrooms, ibuprofen.. etc. (There may still be a Mexican restaurant in operation nearby too?)

Just to clarify one item, the picture of the (rough draft) course indicates camping near hole one, however after further discussions within the Sward family last month, there was enough debate to request that all the camping (if any) be done off the property. Issues of campfires and all other potential signs of activity, besides the golfing, were requested to be brought to a minimum on the property itself, in exchange for the privilege to use it as a tournament venue. I promised this request would be easy to respect and fulfill. So if all goes as planned, this site could become the home of this Bozeman Spring MT Point Series event for years to come.

Now I'm just excited to see what the HDGC handiwork will do to polish the course from the rough draft stage, to the tournament-stage it will soon become.

Start the prayers for great weather, eh?

the very last second of this bridgerbowl daily vid from 4/11 has someone throwin a decent flick with skis on - no doubt practicing for the $ward$ showdown- fess up! Wink

think that area in general gets less snow, like less than the 11" I heard campus got...?
sounds like an awesome venue anyway for a spring event like this, gonna be some fun use of the rock outcrops I bet- and with the hotsprings right there its perfect for the apres scene no matter what the weather would do, win/win for them as well...

Dabomb, thanks for the question. Sorry if I implied there was no convenient camping. In fact, there are many places for one to make a camp on the (BLM) land/roads leading up to the course. Just not camping on the course land.

Also please visit this page about camping and motels. http://www.norrishotsprings.com/camp.htm It explains one FWP campsite which is 6 miles away from Norris. And that there are motels (in Ennis) 16 miles from Norris. I think that page even lists links for all the motels in the area.

Lastly, the Norris webpage does say that camping is available right on their property.

Per some other forum topic/discussions.. we have opted to get with the porta potty program. So that utility will be available from Friday - Saturday nearby the course.

Granted, since this is the first time for us to host a tourney in this neck of the woods, there may be a few first-time kinks that need to be worked out, in order to be instituted for future events there. But the camping issue seems to be one that should easily fall into place. And for others, it is probably centrally located enough to be a one day trip.

Will try to answer other questions in this forum for you ahead of time.
Thanks again,
Craig
