Doubles

is there a doubles round friday night?
how about a schedule of events?

Dabomb, again, thanks for your question.

If my memory serves me correctly, HDGC intends to have everything in place for Friday night doubles, with anyone who shows up. We assumed that there would be some who would want to show up friday just to practice the course. If it is enough of a showing, I think that doubles will be a natural event.

We (HDGC) are meeting tonight, so we will firm up this question.. and post more later in this forum. For now, the "schedule" is simply Players meeting at 8:30, Shotgun start at 9:30. Play one round, take a lunch break, then play a second round. Announce winners, hand out cash, and lastly partake in the raffle.

Pre reg, and Full Metal Baskets

Thanks for bringing this up too Bobd,

All registrations will simply be at the course Friday and Saturday morning. We decided that, for the questionable amount of pre-regs that might occur, it was just easier to skip that step.. and handle registration in person.

If that ends up being something we regret for any reason, then we will be sure to institute that option next year.

Again Friends, we hope that everyone will be forthcoming with some grace (if needed) in exchange for letting us work out some kinks while we gel in this new location. Our first order of business is to provide you with a course and a tourney, our second order of business will be to use what we learn from this standpoint to improve it each year.

BTW, for anyone who wants to bring a full metal basket (FMB), we will be setting up with several chings and such other portables, in hopes of replacing them out with incoming FMB's.

BearTrap Musings

I learned to play at Revenue Flats. Chic Kurowski had an awesome 18-hole course set up on some BLM land tucked away maybe five miles out of Norris. There was also some fantastic bolted rock-climbing routes, some great camping and a perfect shooting range for handguns and rifles. The BLM land would be perfect for camping, but I think Beartrap Hot Springs would be better because Revenue Flats is very vague on ownership bounderies. They used to allow camping at the hot springs, but there is new ownership, so I do not know if the still allow it. There are no hotels in the area, although Bozeman is just 40 minutes east and Three Forks is 30 minutes north. Pony (ten minutes away) has lots of FS land around it and one of Montana's great bars (the Pony Bar). You know what, there is an awesome campsite right on the Madison River just seven miles east of the Springs (which makes it maybe ten miles east of the course) It is a new, nice, developed site with crappers right on the river, with just a couple houses nearby. It will be empty in May, so would be a perfect spot to be overrun by golfers. Lots or room for hucking at camp. The Mexican restaurant is the Schoolhouse Cafe, and they are seasonal so I don't know if they will be open. Probably yes. There is also a great diner (one of those old-school Montana diners that used to be everywhere in this state, like the Pie place in Florence) (is that Glen's Diner?) in Harrison, called the Harrison Diner (or is it the 89 diner?). Anyway, the place is great, the whole freaking area. Scott, bring your fly rod, the Harrison Reservoir is a great place for big browns in May, and Revenue Flats has all sorts of private trout ponds, filled with Kamloops rainbows and freshwater scuds. And if the Madison isn't blown out, well, Bear Trap Canyon is probably the best big-river wade fishing in Western Montana. Yeah, I said that.

Damn, I want to make this tourny.

Haven't ever heard of

Haven't ever heard of BearTrap hot springs...i am very interested!
The area sounds so sweet that I might have to head over on Friday if there would be a critical mass for a Friday night crew. I stayed at that new campground on the river you are talking about and it is plenty sweet (especially w/ proximity to everything and ease of locating it). This is a great central location for the whole state so hopefully there is a big crowd for the first of hopefully many!

water of the gods

Yeah, my bad. Norris Hot Springs was Bear Trap Hot Springs for many years. I did not realize the new ownership actually changed the name. I went this winter, had a very nice time, even if the spring is now very much part of the Bozeman college crowd bar scene. Meaning the place was jammed with people. Bluegrass music, lots of beer and a pretty good grill are now part of the scene. Not the isolated, private hot spring experience anymore, but still the water of the gods.

course is roughed in!!

Spent a long day roughing in the course for the $WARD$ Ranch Classic. The course is going to be totally awesome! The weather was perfect yesterday for doing the layout, and came together pretty much as planned. Parking, camping and outhouse will be pretty close to hole one.
