On the old board, Drew Winterer once asked...
"What are the odds of two people acing back to back on the same hole?"
as occured one tag round last year.
Well, I've been prepping for another request given to me by another and have compiled all the GCF stats from 05 to today.
From the White Tees I have a total of 1514 rounds with hole scores.
Damn, I've typed in a lot of rounds...
That'd be a total of 27,252 holes played/shots from tee.
There's been a total of 13 aces in this data.
So..
The odds of hitting an ace for any one person is
13 in 27,252 = 0.00047
Roughly translated to
1 in 3 Thousand
The odds of hitting back to back aces would be...
169 in 742,671,504 = 0.00000023
Roughly translated to
1 in 5 Million
Blue Tees...
3 aces during 1332 rounds
Would give the odds of hitting an ace from Blue tees
1 in 7,992
back to back would be roughly...
1 in 64 Million
1 in 3 Thousand...
Makes one rethink putting into the ace pot
One gets FAR better odds in Vegas.
Just a little bored waiting for the fiancee to wake up
The answer would be all GCF Tag rounds & Tournaments from '05 to Present.
Very important when lookin at statistics is to consider the data sample.
For example,
If I reduced the data sample to those who only played in the Pro Divisions during tournaments,
then we'd see a very different stats than if the sample was reduced to only the ladies.
Hole averages would probably have a half stroke to 2 stroke difference.
The odds that I presented are somewhat misleading.
What I mean is...
that 1 in 3,000 chance of acing from the white tees is FOR EACH HOLE TEED FROM.
But, to say that it's the same chance when one tees from Hole #11 as it is when one tees from Hole #2 is grossly inaccurate.
I had to treat each hole the same in order to figure out the odds for the event of aces on consecitive tee offs.
And since I dogged the ace pot a bit
Here's the odds that matter for the ace pot.
Chance of Acing during a round from the White Tees...
1 in 117
Chance of Acing during a round from the Blue Tees...
1 in 444
Still, one gets FAR better odds in Vegas.
But you'll see me anting up despite my knowing that gambling is asinine.
Mostly due to not wanting to hit an ace and getting a nice little reward, and that a quarter of the pot helps the club.
