There will be a Matchplay tournament this Sunday, April 19th at Blue.
Registration 8:00 - 8:45
Players Meeting 8:45
Tee off at 9:00.
$20 entry fee with $15 paid back and $5 going to the Pattee fund.
There will be 2 divisions - Am and Pro. Players will be seeded according to PDGA ratings (or maybe last year's Bag Tag ratings - U4ik, can you hook us up?).
It will be double elimination so every player is gauranteed 2 rounds of 9 holes per round. In order to win the tournament, you will need to play 3 - 4 rounds of 9 holes each.
If you haven't played matchplay, it is a lot like skins, except you are head to head with 1 player instead of your whole flight. If you win the hole, you get a point; if you tie a hole, neither of you will get a point; if your opponent wins the hole, he gets the point. No carry-overs, each hole is worth only 1 point. Player with the majority of points wins the round and moves on the the next round of the bracket. The loser of the round moves to the losers bracket, or is eliminated if having already lost.
Come out and have some fun playing a different format and raising some money for Pattee, too.
or maybe last year's Bag Tag ratings - U4ik, can you hook us up?
Sorry,
Best I can do is averages.
Things got too mixed up last year for me to make heads or tails of which cards belong to which round.
In talking to a few people, I think we will seed players based on their Bag Tag averages from last year as that is a more accurate stat than most people's PDGA ratings.
Please be there on time on Sun. so that we can start promptly at 9:00. Also, bring a lunch. There will be a short break following the second round of 9 holes for people to eat. Not that we will need to run to play this event, but with the VERY nice weather forcasted for this weekend (and yea, I hope I jinxed it) the course will be VERY busy, so I would like to be done with the event as early as possible to stay out of the ZOO if possible.
U4ik, can you bring a print out of last year's averages to Bag Tag tonight? or e-mail it to me? Thanks!!!
14 people came out to the Match Play event this morning. 8 Pros and 6 Ams. We seeded out by last year's Bag Tag averages with the Open players playing rounds of up to 9 holes and the Ams playing the first 2 rounds up to 9 holes and the rest at up to 5 holes.
Wii Shane won the Pro bracket defeating me in a one hole playoff. McCoy took third. Dave Spencer won the Am side, with Jon Graff taking second. We raised $70 for Pattee.
I'd like to hear some feedback about this format as this is an event that I would like to grow for next year. I know we didn't play a true double elimination tournament as there were time/course crowdedness issues. Really this type of format should be played over 2 days, or maybe in one day at Spiritwood using rounds of up to 7 holes?? Any other thoughts?

I am curious to see the results of this after it happens, as well as the feedback from the players and see how mch money it raises. I like the idea.
