*** This event has been postponed to April 14-15 ***

The 2nd Annual Montana Match Play event will be held at Sky Ranch on April 7-8. This will be a double elimination match play format event with players playing 9 hole matches to determine who moves on in each bracket. Players will be grouped into one of two brackets based on their PDGA rating. Players rated above 930 will be in Pool 1. Players rated 930 and below will be in Pool 2. Players without a PDGA rating will be placed in the appropriate pool by the TD. Seeding of the brackets will be determined randomly.

$30 Entry Fee breakdown:
$20 - to payouts for Match Play brackets
$5 - to payouts for Random draw doubles round
$5 - course rental fee

Registration is available at http://www.gardencityflyers.org/site/node/2049

All players who are eliminated on Saturday, April 7th, will be automatically entered into a random draw doubles round on Sunday, April 8th that is included in their entry fee. Anyone is welcome to participate in the random draw doubles round. Cost is $10 for anyone who didn’t sign up for the Match Play event ($5 for course fee and $5 for payouts).

We heard lots of good feedback from players who participated in last year's event. Come out and see what all the fuss is about!

Match Play Format

Match Play is similar to Skins, but with a few key differences. You keep score by the amount of holes you win against the person you are playing against, not by the amount of throws you make. In Match Play, holes do not carry over, they are ‘halved’. For example, when you win a hole, you get 1 point. If you tie on a hole, you both get a 1/2 point. So if you have a rough hole and are putting for 5 while your opponent is under the basket tapping in for birdie 2 the person with the birdie would get 1 point and you would move on to the next hole. Actually, in that example, the person who had the rough hole should concede the hole when he realizes that he cannot tie for the birdie that his opponent is getting. Conceding holes is important as there is a lot of golf to be played in one day and it is important to keep the pace up.

We will be playing 9 hole matches. A sudden death playoff will be used for any matches that are tied after 9 holes. This is a double elimination tournament. All players are guaranteed a minimum of two 9 hole matches on Saturday. The more matches you win, the more you get to play. Some players will play five, and potentially six, 9 hole matches on Saturday.

Players who will qualify for cash in each Match Play Pool will finish their matches on Sunday. Everyone else will be entered into a random draw doubles round as part of their entry fee. ANYONE, whether they are entered in the Match Play Tournament or not, is welcome to play the doubles round. Cost for those not playing Match Play is $10 - $5 to payout and $5 course fee.

We have decided to postpone

We have decided to postpone the Montana Match Play one week to April 14–15. This was a very tough decision to make but we feel it is the right decision in terms of both player safety and enjoyment as well as protecting the course during a sensitive time of year. Sky Ranch has received significant snow and rain mixed with snow all week and is expecting more of the same through this weekend creating very slippery conditions on the many hillsides and generally very wet and muddy conditions throughout the course. We apologize for any inconveniences this will cause as we know changing the date will create conflicts with other events. We will gladly refund anyone who has pre-registered. Please help spread the word and we hope to see you next weekend at Sky Ranch!

Match Play Results

It was a long but good day Sky Ranch for the Montana Match Play today! 14 players in the over 930 division and 13 in the under 930 doubles last year’s attendance. A few people, Craig Sward, Chad Miles, and Shane Anderson, played more than 60 holes today!

Luke Allsop didn’t lose a match today to win the under 930 rated division. 3 of the 4 finalists in this division were over 40 - and two of them over 50!!

Wee Shane came from the losers bracket to beat Kevin Sheehan Jr.. in their first championship match and pushed Kevin to a one hole sudden death playoff in the second championship match before Kevin hit the winning put on hole 18

Random Draw Doubles tomorrow teeing off at 10:00. $10. Anyone is welcome to come out to Sky Ranch and play! $135 already up for grabs from Match Play today in addition to any new entries tomorrow
