...article from the bzmn daily comical- good to see some coverage even if they work in the folf/frolf skincrawling comment

Frisbees are flying at the new disc-golf course at Rose Park on Bozeman’s west side.
“The location is key,” Austin Nelson said Wednesday afternoon, just before hucking a disc into one of the metal, chain-link baskets that dot the rolling grassland.
Situated on West Oak Street, behind the North 19th Avenue big-box stores, the 12-hole course is one of the only places to disc golf in town.
Disc golf n also known as Frisbee golf, folf or frolf n is basically golf played with a Frisbee, minus the clubs.
“You’re about able to walk a mile playing the whole course,” said Cary Silberman, who has competed in national disc golf competitions and helped found Course of DISCovery, a local nonprofit formed to build the course. “It takes about a half-hour or 45 minutes for a small group to play.”
Course of DISCovery led the efforts to build the playing field after the sport was banned from Lindley Park in 2001. The city shut it down there after some park users complained that disc golf was damaging trees and posing a safety hazard.
The Rose Park course actually became operable late last fall, but now that the weather is warming up it appears to be drawing more visitors.
“It is in full bloom as far as people using it,” said Craig Sward, also a Course of DISCovery founder. “If it’s a nice evening, it will be busy until after dark.”
And work at the park isn’t done, Sward said.
The group hopes to build a miniature disc-golf course for children by next spring and eventually build up the landscaping and install sidewalks and a parking lot.
The course started as just a flat field filled with weeds. PEX Inc. of Bozeman dumped excess dirt at the park to create mounds for the course. Tee boxes, baskets, additional labor and materials were paid for with donations, as well as local and federal grants.
The course is designed to be easy enough for beginners to play and convenient enough for families to bike to after work or school, Silberman said.
“There is only one hole over 400 feet long and two holes that are under 200 feet,” he said.
A more advanced course is available at Bohart Ranch in Bridger Canyon.
Nelson, who plays disc golf three times a week, jumped at the opportunity to use Rose Park as soon as the course was useable n though cold - last winter.
“It’s fun,” he said. “It’s tough in its own way because it’s really windy, but it will be really cool as it develops and there’s some landscaping and trees.”
truly amazing how much work you guys have put into Rose Park, great job! Can't wait to play it again

Thanks Bob,
This place is going to be so much sweeter when it is Rose Park 5.0 or 6.0
Right now.. it's like, Rose Park 3.0.
Anyway.. so beautiful today, had to share on. (More Of That On)

Here is a video I put together of the excavation and base layers of the parking lot on Rose Park so far. Thanks to everyone who has helped out! Concrete curbs were poured yesterday and we are hoping to have asphalt before winter hits. More pics to come!!!
nice video... but I was only able to make it 22 seconds before having to mute the volume due to SMS (Sudden Migrane Syndrome) -aka- country music
..though I do understand the pun intended..
I'm really glad I got to play Rose Park before the great undertaking was started that way next time I'm down there I can see the full effect! Great Job guys that is one hell of a project!
Handicap parking and all!
The days of the humble mud bog parking.. are officially Over!
All Kudos go to Brandon Lavinder (ThumberB) for a herculean
Course Of DISCovery effort, that involved a month of donated
operator hours on a plethora of machines and problem solving!
I'm sure he will want to spread the thanks to a couple key members of his professional (fellow) operator team that he also got into donating on the project. Not to mention the HDGC guys he trained to assist. Matt Muth really jumped in big time, along with Cary Silberman and they are said to have careers in earth moving if they so opted.
Plus A few other HDGC guys, like Tolo and Zyzda?, I know I am missing who were at bat on this project..
I cannot say how amazing it feels to (once again) see a multi-hundred thousand dollar project done for under $40k. Which was, BTW, just the amount of money C.O.D. was awarded from Fish Wildlife and Parks (Land water Conservation Fund)in return for completing the Rose Park Flying Disc Center.
As Cary (Hyzerbomber) pointed out on Twitter for public to see.. http://twitter.com/rosepark this frees us up to get more funding from the City to start a myriad of beautification projects further into his designs for each hole.
IMO, This place is going to be a unique flagship for either MT disc golf, or for a destination spot while vacationing in Bozeman.
to see the latest rash of photos.. posted on DGRUS.. this will jump you right to it. http://discgolfer.ning.com/photo/photo/listForContributor?screenName=31lth6w38osor
Added H.O.E.!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! dq

Make the last push on the parking lot for Rose Park.
There is apparently a batch of crushed rock or something that is coming in this SATURDAY 9/4/10 .And more hands are helpful. This is the last touch before the asphalt comes in. There may be some equip to drive for this push?
Brandon Lavinder has been the crucial arm behind this phase of moving the dirt for this project and filling the hole with compact-able dirt.. in prep for professional asphalt layers. He has done a good deal of in-kind fund raising and donated a ton of hours, in a short time, in order to take the parking lot from a mountain of mud, to a finished paved parking lot.
Matt Muth on Dozer operation with help from hand of God!
