Here is a list of projects still to be completed this year. The Forest Service assured me that they have the money, time, and resources to hold up their end of these projects so it's up to us to hold up our end so that the course can open on July 1.
Rehab and install short fence for old holes 17 and 18 - GCf seeded some and FS will do rest
Install 4 new holes - GCF
Install 11 new baskets - 9 for the remaining 9 holes and 2 for the two holes that had converted Sports on them last fall - GCF
Install 18 tee pads - just tee pads, no frame or rock under them for this year. The FS wants to spend a little time with the design phase for certain tee areas before installing a more permanent tee pad - GCF
Narrow the new trail between hole 4 and 5 - GCF
Replace closure and rehab signs on fences - FS supply signs, GCF install
Install hole/sponsor signs - GCF
Remove and rehab upper parking lot on County Road - FS has been and will work with the County on this
Install Aluminum recycling receptacle at parking lot - GCF
Build elevated puncheon (a better walkway over the wet area) between hole 3 and 4 - Forest Service
New etiquette and course sign at parking lot - FS and GCF
This is quite a list, but I think we can get it all done.
We should be ordering the tee pads this week, so be watching for a work day or two in the next couple of weeks to install them.
We will be ordering the baskets and tee signs shortly after the ZTO, so be expecting a few work days in the last week of June or so to install these final touches
As discussed following the Bag Tag round tonight, the FS has begun work up at Pattee. They have begun building the new walkway across the wet areas between holes 3 and 4. Starting the week of June 22, they will be doing some major rehab work on old holes 17 and 18. This will include bringing in a backhoe and de-compressing, scarifying, seeding, and mulching these areas and probably putting a fence up to keep people out for a few years to give those areas some rest. They will also be working with the County to permanently close the upper parking lot along the road kind of near where old holes 1 and 18 were.
Will be ordering the remaining 11 baskets and 18 tee pads this week so be watching for work parties to start probably the week of June 22, too. Will pass along more info when I know more.
i have heard people say pattee is open. Is this true? Weren't the baskets pulled for winter last year?
Pattee Canyon will open on July 1 as was the plan all along. There has been no announcements otherwise. I had "the pleasure" of being with FS officials as they wrote several citations last Friday. Wasn't fun.
On the plus side, it is now the best dog-walking spot imaginable. No water, but no mosquitos either.
On that note, have you noticed how many areas have revegatated without rehab work?? The princess hole's fairway (old 420 bench hole, hole right before the ditch hole) has almost no barren area anymore, the ditch hole has a lot of grass growing along the left side of the fairway, and on both the meadow holes (holes 1 and 2) there have been whole trails that have been reclaimed by vegatation just to name a few. These were BIG points in our favor with the FS.
They did express regret that the area is still closed to DG, but because of the MANY projects that are scheduled before July 1, they felt it was prudent to keep it closed until then. I gotta say that I agree with them on this point. They will be up there next week with heavy machinery and etc... doing a lot of work and it would be counter-productive for them to have to worry about DG'ers possibly being in the way and/or trampling the rehab work while they are in the process of doing it. If it is this dry this early next year, there will be a VERY hard push by many people, and the Club, to open it early, and I think there is a pretty good chance of that happening if the conditions merit it.
hey brian when is the next work party up at patty?
I can't say for sure. We are waiting for the baskets to come in. When they get here, a few of us will weld them up and then we will call a work party to install them on the course.
As the Big Sky guys found out, due to all the stimulus money being thrown around, a lot of parks across the country are putting in disc golf courses and so there aren't any baskets readily available. I ordered ours (11 mach V's) a week and a half ago, and they said then that they would be here about the 1st of July, but maybe as much as a week later.
Same for the tee pads. They are also ordered, but won't be here till probably a couple of weeks after the baskets.
I'll let you know more when I know more.
