so I still can't get enough disc golf...just freaking love it... go figure.
I enjoy history and thus Disc Golf History thread is born.
Did you know the first World Record for Distance was only a mere 275 feet (84.1 meters)
- -quite a difference from todays World Record of 820 feet (250 meters)...which belongs to Christian Sandström & a 168g Innova DX Valkyrie (thats right, DX Valkyrie! )
which leads me to today and the real question.
since 1970 there has been a NEW World Record in distance achived about couple years, once it went 5 years (88-93), but pretty much every other year on average. Currently iy has been 7 years since the distance record was set/reset. SEVEN YEARS! In those 7 years, new plastics, new molds, new specification guidelines and... nothing.
How much longer till the WR is broke again? or will it? anyone thinking of putting a DX Valk in the bag
it's only a matter of time... who's gonna do it? Avery? Lil' Wiggy? Scott-Dub?
I'll tell you the truth...My longest drive off hole 10 was with a 166 Star Valkyrie...It was not where I wanted it..it turned over but it went all the way across the fairway for 4 and landed past the little pines in the middle way off to the left if you are coming down 4 it landed in that last little patch of grass before going down the hill into the road. That was a crazy long throw that I have not matched since...and don't really care to...lol.
Remember when cobra was THE long driver? Well, I heard a rumour that some Flyer parked Mirkwood from the blues with a DX Cobra.
it still is! (for my backhand drive, anyway heh!) have a few extra DX cobras if anyone is looking for one... scored a sick Glo Champion Cobra a couple weeks ago... SICK!
I would love to find a INNOVA Phoenix and a Viper or two... anyone have one hanging around???
Stokely's arm is pretty much busted...something with the elbow or something, but he can't throw hard at all anymore without tons of pain i think.
Avery was rumored to get an unofficial world-record-breaker warming up for this year's Big D, but the record is still 820' by Sand-storm. Man, you see that guy in person and you can see it, he is ripped to shreds.
Who knows how far Lil Wig will be able to throw when he's Big Wig in a few years. His dad is pretty short though, and height helps at least a little bit for distance. It's weird, it seems like it should make even more difference but at Worlds there is always plenty of height diversity in the distance finals...Steve Brinster is always in there (probably 5'7), Garrett Gurthie is a multiple distance title winner (probably 5'8), and Manabu Kagiyama won the distance this year at worlds and he can't be more than 5'8 or 5'9.
Lil Wig is getting pretty darn scary though. He moved up to the Sponsored Team this year, his rating is skyrocketing (currently 988), he won all the field events for advanced am, and he's currently in 5th in the almost 300 person advanced field. I think he's a high school freshman.
Hey Bob...I have a Pro Cobra and some Vipers...if you really want some.
YES! i want the vipers!! seriously, don't get rid of 'em, I'll take them!! hopefully 175g range...
DX or Champion Vipers Bob?
Did they produce Vipers in Champion plastic??? I don't remember that if they did.
CFR smoke'ms, CFR. DX seem to still be around, but I would love to track down a Champion Viper...
I know my dad has a number of DX Vipers @ RPF. I have a clear/whitish CFR Viper from last years' Golden State Classic that I might be willing to part with.
