The city of Post Falls had a Park & Rec Meeting that was open to the public the other night. One of the topcs to be discussed was the future of Corbin Park. The city has plans to make some changes to Corbin Park that would affect disc golf. I won't get into detail yet but the NIRDGC Board met with one of the council members a few weeks bag who was very supportive of what we are trying to do. Shortly thereafter our Pres. (Tom W) wrote a letter to the P&R Director. Long story short - the NIRDGC had 4 members attend this meeting (3 board members and one might as well be) and Tom was asked to speak on behalf of disc golf to the entire board. He spoke and represented us well since nobody else was invited to speak for disc golf. We learned some interesting information about the city's plans for Corbin Park as well as future park plans. One of the neatest things happened after the meeting. As us 4 NIRDGC members were standing outside talking after the meeting we had a City Council member, 1 P&R board member, and the P&R director all come up and talk to us individually and they were pretty remarkable and supportve, some of them surprisingly so. I would have to encourage all of you in Missoula to group together in a coordinated way and attend public meetings like this to get your ideas heard, it can only strengthen your image with the city. The NIRDGC members who showed up to the meeting were the only special interest group who had supporters show up for the meeting and the entire council noted that and had nice things to say for us. I think we will make it a point to try and attend all of the P&R meeting as well, the next one won't be until Sept.
I have a letter in the works.
September 1st 2009 i posted at Corbin Parks message board the proposed Masterplan map showing the revisions to be made at Corbin park.
Along with the map, I posted the agenda from the last commission meeting and a listing of the commissioners (who were all present) and how they spoke relating to the disc golf vs other park user's for the Corbin park issue. I included a copy of mine and Jack Wardains letter's to the Post Falls Parks and rec director Mr. Dave Fair.
PLEASE PUT OUT THE WORD TO ALL WHO WILL HEAR THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOW YOURS! As many players/people as possible need to contact the PF city P&R department and voice their opinions concerning Corbin Park, disc golf ,and future camping that will be added to this decades old park.
Speech up if you want to continue to putt out! Lets save disc golf as i well as possible at Corbin Park.
Thank you, Tom W
Our next Prks and Rec commission meeting is next Tuesday, 9-22-09(always on the 4 Tuesday of the month). Wish us luck, DG @ Corbin Park is going to need it. Scott , i hope you got your letter in by the 14th? TW
Oh F...! I still have the letter
Isn't there a time before the meetings that the comission allows notes to be turned in, or at least allows people to announce their desire to speak? If I am too late on the letter maybe they will at least let me speak.
No news is good news. Corbin Park was not on the agenda for this meeting which was good since we only had two disc golfers show up for the meeting which was only about 20 minutes long anyway. There will be discussion on Corbin planned for the next meeting which should be on October 27th. That means I still have time to submit my letter - I'm so lazy!

This past Wednesday evening before League play started I gave a report describing the information that I have learned from attending the last two Post Falls Parks and Recreation Commission Meetings .
There is a proposal to change the boundaries of Corbin parks Disc Golf course by the introduction of over 25 Campsites, with utilities. We were presented with a Map showing the reconfiguration of the Roads, refocusing of the Day Use areas, re-orienting the Ball field, relocation of the Horse shoe and Volleyball courts, and adding walk-in Campsites, etc.
The map shows the elimination of holes # 1,2,3, And the removal of Tee Pad or Baskets on holes # 4,5,14,and 15.
One of the park Commissioners is an infrequent disc golf player and has pushed to keep Disc Golf as well as possible at Corbin park. The other Commissioners and the Parks N Rec Director are not fully behind retaining Corbin parks disc golf charter.
After the Commission approves the final design the matter will be sent to the City Council for their approval/denial.
Myself and Jack Wardian have each sent a letter to the Parks Director and Commissioners.
We encourage all who like Disc Golf or are concerned about Camping at Corbin park to contact the Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department and relate your feeling concerning this matter. We will post this information and the Map at Rapid Fire Plastics as well as on Corbin parks sign board.
Thank You,
Sincerely, Tom Walker
