I have been sucked into eBay lately, and had a random idea that I thought might have some potential.
I'm sure we all have discs lying around and many with discs on the wall. Times are tough and spare cash isn't always around, but maybe there is some fresh plastic sitting around or a collectors piece on the wall you could donate to help the club continue our mission of improving and spreading the game we all love, Disc Golf baby! (and if you don't have something extra to give up, well then you need more plastic!!... buy one
) eBay seems to draw some good sales...
I have a few to start of with:
Autographed DX Aviar, NEW -autographed by: Devid Feldberg, Jay Reading, Avery Jenkins, Matt Orum, Valerie Jenkins and Des Reading
2008 Worlds CFR Champion XCaliber, NEW
I like the idea Bob. It would be nice to know what the goal is. What do we need? What does Blue need that we could assist in providing? Funny how you have to word things isn't it?
I don't know about a specific goal for $$ needed, yet, but the Club does need to raise $$ for the 2010 ZTO, States, and for the tee pads that will eventually be allowed at Blue.
I have a box o'discs that I been meaning to go through for this fundraiser. Hopefully will get to it this weekend.
One thing we do with the NIRDGC that I started was the selling of used discs at a cheap price. We have had a very good response to used discs being sold for a good price, I have found that even beat DX discs will sell if the price is right (i.e. $2-3). Unfortunately, the place that we get the most used discs sold is at Rapid Fire Plastics Disc Golf Store which basically means that the business is losing business to the club - good for NIRDGC and bad for RFP. That said, between the used disc sales and the hat fund (which we implemented after I stole the idea from GCF)we have raised about $500 for the club over the last 2 seasons, most of which was from used disc sales from this year. I don't think we had a hat fund last year. I think the best way that GCF could utilize used disc sales is 1) get as many used discs as you can that people will DONATE and 2) ask for a club member volunteer who is a regular at bag tags every weeks who can be in charge of selling the used discs (you have to spread the word because I think most of our sales were to non club members and non league players - regular casual players looking for something cheap). We get some pretty poor condition discs coming through that we sell for cheap and some very nice one that we can sell for more and they all seem to move relatively quickly - and hey, every dollar counts. I even had one disc sell for $15 last year, it was an unthrown Champion X-out Leopard that I did a custom dye on. I know I have about a half a dozen discs ready to donate to the club again in the spring that should bring in some more money. Just my 2 cents.
2) ask for a club member volunteer who is a regular at bag tags every weeks who can be in charge of selling the used discs (you have to spread the word because I think most of our sales were to non club members and non league players - regular casual players looking for something cheap)
That's the sweet part of selling them on eBay. The club has a paypal account, pretty much eliminating the keeping track of cold hard cash part. Also reaching those interested in purchasing them - easily. additional benefits are being able to explain our non-profit status, possibly drawing more money per auction and even more traffic to this site. It could also be a great way to sell some leftover club & tourney discs (so we can order FRESH sweetness!
). This site just doesn't get enough traffic yet to sell many discs, where ebay gets over 15 million (yes, million) unique visitors a day with 350,000+ of that attributed to sporting goods specifically.

apparently not that good of an idea after all...
