I know at the beginning of this thread there is a large list of events for all of MT but I am wondering what specific events/dates/locations/sanctioning the MT Points Cup will consist of. I am trying to put together a calander that has, the MT Points Cup events, INWS events, WA Series events, ID events, and other random large events. Also, I know there are some INWS events that need to be scheduled and I would like to fit them in around other events. If someone could post the info for the Pts Cup I would appreciate it and I will add other MT events that are not part of a series to my list later. Thanks
The events in the 2010 MT Series will be:
Spring Fling - Apr 17
Swards Ranch - May 1
Possibly Spiritwood Open - June 12
Timberbeast Challenge - June 19
Continental Classic - July 12 - (13???)
The Benefit - August 7
Bohart Ranch - August 21
MT States - Sept 11 - 12
The invitation has been offered to Spiritwood to rejoin the Series. Nick and Dave are considering their options of having a good ol'fashioned fun and party tourney or a more serious and formal Series event and will let us know soon which way they decide.
The Helena crew is still undecided as to whether or not the Continental Classic will be a one day or two day event
How 'bout sanctioning for these events?
Our Series allows for each Club/TD to determine to what level (if any) any event will be sanctioned, so I can't say for sure for any events other than the Timberbeast (almost for sure not sanctioned), The Benefit (C-tier), and States (B-tier). Due to needing insurance, most, if not all, the other events will likely be sanctioned, but I will let them say to what level, if any, that will be.
headwaters club lookin to sanction $ward$- may need the blessing of the state coord that its a valid course I guess, we'll be in touch on that one but thought we'd get a few more playas that way- though we're conscious of that venue as a delicate wildland and will be careful how widely we spread the word to our local casuals, its more like a gift to the serious golf crowd- talked about a cash dubs thingy the next day there, details hammered out 'tween now&then...
so if we git'r dun for that one seems likely we'd also sanctify bohart event...
those were the thoughts at our meeting a couple weeks ago anyway
hey nice facebook page, joined up and checkt the pics, pretty kewl
spiritwood icebowl looked like beauty day, hope to check it this summer...
edit to ask: what's the call on the number of events needed to "win" the series? looks good for me so far but can I miss one- not the finals- and still be in it?
thanks for all the work puttin the skedge together, be cool to see these become the "sanctioned" events of the year so we can all keep our rating going on our home turf but it'd also be way cool to see the off weeks filled in a bit with some cash events that go to us and not the pdga...
.02
back to bein a skibum for today but more'n more golf kickin around the ol noggin as the daze get longer fo sho, cheers...
Any way we could change the dates on the link "Montana Points Series" on the homepage sidebar to the current ones? it might get a little misleading. What are everyones thoughts on Spring Fling being a two day event. As the points series kick off it has always been one of the bigger tourneys of the year. Seems like a good idea to me...., thoughts?
no thanks. A two day I most likely wouldn't make.
-Point series schedule updated for 2010...
Check out the spring fling topic in the tournaments section. It'll be a 1-day with a sweet Sunday schedule planned for those who can stick around for part of the day (we'll still try to wrap it up early).
Would love to see both $ward$ and Bohart sanctioned. I agree that it'd be sweet if all of the series events were sanctioned, and then have other tourneys (state doubles/team, timberbeast, lubrecht(?), libby(?), whitefish(?), great falls? (they just got baskets and tee pads, anyone know Johanus Musket, who's listed on the PDGA site as a contact?), etc., unsanctioned). Not sure if Spiritwood should ever be sanctioned though even if it is part of the series, it kind of just feels wrong
Dunno what other tourneys might also happen in MT. It's AWESOME that we have a sweet, and packed, schedule this year. Still gotta go out of state to steal those ratings points and bring 'em back home, though!
Thanks for the webpage update Bob-O, i also posted the spring fling info on the points series page for SF.
oh yeah and as far as sanctioning goes, $ward$ is FOR SURE a legit enough course, in sharp contrast to the legitimacy of Seth's victory there last year.

thanks again for some concrete info on all of this stuff. It was not my point about the east side tourneys and did not know that you had taken those tourneys into consideration although it doesn't surprise me that you did. I do think that you should talk more about what it is that you are doing and or how you are steering the boat, it is just good policy and would eliminate most of the questions and second guessing. Good to hear about the mostly final set for our events schedule.
Now that there is no seasonal closure for blue, does that mean that the rehab work there will not be completed? I hope that it does, at least to some extent because BIG TOURNEY & NO MAINTENANCE= BAD PUBLICITY. I would be more than happy to help if you have some work days sometime on the weekends. Would drive over.
Will be looking at the MT series thread for your reply on the rules.
