Today on hole 10 I waited on the tee box while a father and kid sat on their sled in the middle of the fairway. I hooted and clapped for a couple of minutes and then, in a moment of weakness threw. My foot slipped and sure enough my disc landed close to them. When I walked down he pointed out that my disc almost hit them. I apologized and mentioned he was sitting in the middle of the fairway to which he pointed out it is a multi use area. He was right. All I could do was shake my head and walk away because I couldn't argue with that. Lesson learned I guess but what bothers me is if anything were to happen it would be disc golf that would lose out, not the oblivious people who sit inattentively in a fairway and then cry multi use designations.
id just give them a yell then throw..as long as they notice you .... its their own damn fault if they get hit.... many sled hills .. only 1 open folf course..if they are going sledding in the middle of a fairway they should know to watch out... my 2 cents..
anyone putting up any huge scores this winter? i've yet to brave the conditions
Next time, don't say anything and when your disc almost hits them, instead of walking down, after you cross the road, flip over one of your star or champ discs, plant your rear on it and sled down to your disc... then you have the "right away" not only are you disc'n .. but your sledding too - BOOM! Trumped!
...
some people are pretty ignorant...
Actually, even though it is a multi-use area, sledding is NOT condoned by the FS, and they even put signs up warning about the risk of death (seriously, look for the sign next time your up there). I had this discussion with the FS when we were talking about the proposed new parking lot, which is why it will probably go where hole 6 now is instead of other places - so that they they are not implying that they are improving the area for a recreational use (sledding) that they don't condone during in the winter.
Having said that, we definitly need to be on our best behavior near the sledding hills as it would only take one accident and have someone's kid get hurt to have them shut down the course during the winter months, too. And I think if you ask most people who are sledding, they would say that we are the crazy recreationists for "folfing" in the winter.
Just like them damn crazy sled-loving fools who prefer to go down a dangerous hill that leads them into a path of wooded destruction. Hope you don't lose an eye! I would throw and if it hits them just say hey...it is a multi use area...if you are going to stay on the fairway then you are asking for those problems to arise.

Yes indeed. Down here in Billings the sledders take over the course at pioneer. We do a great job of improvising, but when the city complains about disc golf and the litter it produces but they never recognize the heaps of trash that kids and their parents leave behind...unbelievable.
