The city of Post Falls required me to provide some kind of insurance coverage in order for me to be able to run an Ice Bowl event at Corbin Park. I knew I could get insurance through the PDGA for a fee and went through with the sanctioning process to ensure that I had their required coverage. I was told by a local disc golfer that I should ask my insurance agent about getting coverage for an event like this through my home owners insurance, so I hit him up for an answer. He had never heard of such a thing but looked into it for me and found that I can take a policy out on my home owners insurance to cover a pretty large sum per occurance and it would be at no extra fee. I just thought I would let others know that they might be able to get tournament insurance coverage at no cost through their home owners policy if they were looking to run an event (especially fundraiser) and did not want to bother with making it a PDGA event. If I would have got this answer sooner I would have used it for the Corbin Ice Bowl.

sweet

Surprising but sweet! Did Post Falls require you to name the city as an "additional insured"? I can imagine a homeowner's liability insurance policy covering YOU if you got sued, and it would be pretty sweet to find out that they'll name the city or other gov't body as an additional insured as well.
I know the city of Missoula and the Forest Service require us to do that for them in the Zoo.

Very cool!

You bet they required me to

You bet they required me to name them as additionally insured. I was surprised to learn that if I hit a person with a disc on a course and they sued me that I would be covered by my homeowners policy. I was really surprised that they would cover an event at a park and have an additional insured at no charge. The only stipulation was that I will not be serving alcohol. They didn't seem to care that alcohol will probably be there - as long as I am not personally serving it. I would imagine that the PDGA covers the city and FS as additionals? Since the tourney is sanctioned anyway that is probably the best way to go. Does it cost more to insure a B-Tier?
