I'm looking to play Amatuer this year throughout the MT Points Series, but didn't know if there would be a State Championship for the Ams or do I have to be in Adv Ams to go. Also I played one Tourney in Open Mens last year does that stop me from playing Ams this year
after re-reading... do you mean Am or Intermediate? Adv.Amateur and Intermediate(Amateur?) are separate from each other, but the logic is the same...
could you please elaborate on not taking cash and script
Sure. If you do well playing in any Pro/Open division and place well enough to earn a prize (which is always ca$h in Pro/Open), in order to keep you "Am" status you can not accept cash prizes. PDGA recently stated anyone who declines cash shall be awarded a "script". Te script is typically the amount you would have won in cash, sometimes more. Your script can then be redeemed for "shwag" aka prizes... discs and usually a lot more. Rapid Fire Plastics was my first SWEET experience with this and it was great!! Have gone pro since then... damn it!!
I will take your advice and rock out the pts series with no worries. See you in Billings Saturday
A little more info... There will be a State Champion crowned in all divisions, including, but not limited, too, Intermediate Am and Advanced Am. There will also be MT Points Series Champions crowned in both of those divisions, along with several others, too.
Great to hear your interested in playing the MT Series!! You should play in the division that you feel the most comfortable/competitive/able to have the most fun in. How did your scores compare to other divisions in the tourney you played in last year?? That would be a good place to look at in determining what division to play in this year. You are more than welcome to play Open/Pro, but please don't feel forced or pushed to. I think that it's important for players to gain experience in not only how to play the sport, but in how to play in a tourney by playing Am - either Int or Adv - before moving up to Open. But the choice is always up to the player.
So I was basically out of my league in Advanced this weekend at the X. Not DFL, but like 2 spots shy of it, and like 30 strokes from first place. So I'm switching to Intermediate for the rest of the tourneys. Will my Spring Fling points count in any way towards intermediate at the end of the season? I really think I can only play in enough events to qualify for States, so I don't want to lose my Spring Fling points. How does that work? I probably should have asked yesterday at doubles....
Seth explained it to me at Carters last night. Can't transfer points...... Good beer though!
I hope to get the points updated this week, but due to limited access to a computer and final preparations for the ZTO, might take a little longer. Thanks for your patience

There should be no problem for you to play Amateur throughout the MT point series. In any event there is not enough Ams (3 or more)for you to be rated(/play) against, you can play open, with out anyone "advancing/taking points" on you, thus does not matter your playing pro instead. You will have to deny cash and take a script (prizes worth the same amount $$... in order to continue playing Ams***). For the last part, as long as when you played Open, as long as it wasn't PDGA sanctioned and you didn't take cash, your fine.
*** Any player can play Ams if their rating is low enough (like mine) .. see PDGA Division Guidelines.
