Went on a DG vacation last weekend to scenic Canmore Alberta to play the Big Bear Classic. Canmore is located west of Calgary and just east of Banff National Park and was held on the Canadian 3 day weekend so lots of players came from the coast for this event. The course is located on the Canmore Nordic Centre grounds - where the nordic events were held for the 1988 Calgary Olympics. This place is ABSOLUTELY GOERGOUS!!!!! Views of BIG mountains in every direction - truly spectacular!!

The course uses the nordic (cross country ski) trails for nearly all the holes and includes elevation changes and tight fairways on every hole. A very challenging and fair course. Didn't play very well (took 8th out of 20), but had a good time and the people were great! Well worth the trip! Definitly in my top 3 most beautiful courses I've played.

One of the unique things about this event was during the Player's Meeting, they had a person give the bear talk as the locals frequently see both black and grizzly bears on the course. She recommened that one person in each group have a can of bear spray and even demonstrated how to use it. Never seen that at a DG event before.

The newspaper article about the event got picked up by the PDGA in their latest newsletter and can be found at http://www.banffcragandcanyon.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2592946
