As I was filling about the renewal application and got kinda stuck on "Membership Divisions and Fees - please check one of the following"
options are
$50 Amateur
$75 Professional
$25 Junior

So I was thinking about jumping up to Open this year, but I might also play an A or NT tier event at the advanced level.. so.. question is, if I register as an Am, can I not play pro? whats the deal? anyone know what additional benefits registering as a pro might have? ?

There are no benefits to registering as a pro if you aren't one already. You will be automatically "upped" to pro upon taking cash and you can preserve your Am status for the big events before that, as well as save $25. I think you could still play Advanced at big tourneys if you registered as a pro but hadn't taken cash yet; and actually I suppose under the new rules pros below a certain rating might be able to play advanced in anything but Am Majors (?)

bottom line: register as an Am and save $25. There are no additional benefits (at least that I'm aware of) to registering as a pro.
