New Discs

Well, the newest discs are the Voodoo Putter with a double micro bead, the Warrior which is a re-tooled Element X making it way more over-stable, and the re-tooled Element making it more stable. They have also introduced the new E gummy plastic. It is transparent/translucent similar to Champion plastic but way gummier. Then of course there were the releases last year of the Assassin driver which is the bomb for long range turnover shots and the Magic putter which is an under-stable putter. We expect to have a new driver this spring. It should fall between the Diablo DT and the Assassin. Think Diablo speed and Assassin glide.

The new Warrior isn't on

The new Warrior isn't on there, and probably not the retooled Element either.

The old Warrior is PDGA approved, but I think that was the original Blaze or something.

However, the PDGA has something weird about not needing to re-approve mold changes, only name changes. The Pro SL needed approval after being renamed from the Starfire, even though the mold didn't change. On the other hand, the TeeRex mold has changed a few times but hasn't needed re-approval.

It will interesting to see if they let that fly with the new Warrior, since its a completely different mold and disc type.

Re-tool

The old Warrior is the Blaze. The new Warrior is a re-tool and not a new mold. They added a slight edge on the palte and added a dome but it was from the old Element X mold.

Right, but is the new

Right, but is the new Warrior PDGA approved?

The PDGA rules for equipment are kind of weird. You can re-tool a mold and keep the name and the PDGA doesn't need to re-certify it.

However, if you change the name then the PDGA needs to re-certify it.

The Warrior is a name change and a mold change.

Re-tool

The Warrior is approved because the mold was re-tooled from the original Element X, although it did go through quite a transformation after 3 re-tools. The re-tool is similar on the Element. If you look at both the new Warrior and Element you will see that they use the same wing mold. This is from the original mold. The differences are in the flight plate. The Element plate was re-tooled to have a bigger dome, while the Element X was re-tooled to create that Blurr/Rage edge to the flight plate on the Warrior. They don't have to be approved since each new design comes from the original mold. Although, after the extreme transformation of the Element X, I'm sure that the PDGA Technical Standards Board will have something to say about how much you can modify a previous mold to create a new disc. LOL. Can you say The Wheel and Turbo Putt.

New Gateway Drivers

The new spring Gateway drivers are the Savage and the Apache. The Savage has no HS turn and a good solid LS fade. The Apache has a slow HS turn with a slow to moderate LS fade. The Apache falls into the spot between the Diablo DT and the Assassin in stability but has a fast flight like the Diablo and glide similar to the Assassin. The Savage is pretty much like the Diablo except the HS fade seems more pronounced in the Savage and it is a little slower. The Apache would make a great disc for anyone wanting a BH turnover with predictable fade at the end. This disc will flex out nicely.
